AI visibility for hotels, restaurants and travel
The short version. Travel and dining answers lean heavily on the review aggregators, which means your visibility is largely a function of a layer you do not own, and the useful work is making that layer accurate about you.
The answer slot in this category usually belongs to the directory layer
- tripadvisor.com
- yelp.com
Where that layer holds the slot, the lever is presence on the directory layer. These are the platforms our classifier already carries for this category, so a pool held by one of them is recognised as such rather than counted as a rival brand.
This is the category where the gap between being read and being recommended is widest. Engines crawl property sites constantly and then answer from the aggregators anyway, because that is where the comparative information lives. Crawler traffic here is a poor predictor of whether you are in the answer.
That gap is measurable rather than theoretical. With request logs forwarded, the product shows pages AI crawlers fetch repeatedly that no measured answer has ever cited, which is the clearest available signal that the engines are reading a page and not trusting it enough to cite it.
The seasonal shape of the category also breaks naive trend reading. Demand moves, the answers move with it, and a change that looks like a decline is often the category breathing. Movement is only reported when the intervals separate, which is a slower story and a truer one.
What the product actually does here
01Read against cited
Forward request logs and the product shows which pages AI crawlers fetch and whether any measured answer has ever cited them. It is first-party data from your own logs, so it is counts rather than estimates.
02Per-market measurement
A property group is measured per market against its own local competitive field, never as one blended national number.
03Sentiment separated from visibility
How often you appear and how you are described are different questions with different fixes. They are reported separately, both with sample sizes.
What we will not claim here
- We do not write or place reviews anywhere, ever.
- We do not report a seasonal swing as a win or a loss. If the intervals overlap, the report says normal variation, even when that is the less exciting sentence.
One thing to hold on to: none of the above is assumed about you. Your report classifies each of your money queries from your own measured answers, and if it disagrees with this page, the report is right. This page describes what categories like yours have tended to look like, which is a useful prior and a bad conclusion.
The measurement rules behind that are on the methodology page, and the enforcement page names the test behind each one.
